AS HE BARES OUR CROSS
John 19:16–17
“So he delivered him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus, and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. “

As Jesus was delivered to be crucified, He was scourged, having suffered greatly, but now forced to carry what would soon be the object in which He would die on. After taking 39 lashes, He was forced to carry a massive weight, leading to His death. While being mocked, beaten, spit on, He still went forward. The God of the Universe was in the greatest position of humiliation. At any point, Jesus could have dropped the cross, destroyed those who condemned Him, while being completely just. Jesus could have said enough is enough and given them over to their sin, but out of obedience to the Father he kept pressing forward, where the greatest work of all time was displayed. The God of the Universe on the cross, taking on the sins of the world, allowing those who condemned Him, to have a chance at eternal life. This applies to us when the words of Christ are echoed,
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me”
The cost of obedience requires denial of personal comfort and desire, for the greater purpose which God has in store for us. What cross are you being called to carry today? Are you willing to deny yourself and follow Christ, even when the path is difficult?
Share this with someone who needs encouragement, or reply with your thoughts on what it means to take up your cross daily.
