Compassion

As there was no longer life in the body of Jesus Christ, a member of the Sanhedrin, the same council who persecuted Christ, brought him down from the cross, into an empty tomb. Luke describes this man as “good and righteous man,” also implying that he was a believer. This man Joseph was going against what the rest of the council thought of Christ, believing that He was truly the Son of God, taking care of His dead body in a proper manner. An empty tomb, unused and not occupied by other bodies was what he thought the Lord deserved.

[50] “Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man, [51] who had not consented to their decision and action; and he was looking for the kingdom of God. [52] This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. [53] Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud and laid him in a tomb cut in stone, where no one had ever yet been laid.” (ESV)

Not only does Joseph disagree in his heart about what they did to Jesus, but he responds in action against their persecution , treating Him as holy. How often do we stand up for Christ in our workplace? In public? In our homes? Chances are you have seen or heard something that is dishonoring to the Lord within the week. but how do you respond? Joseph went against those who he served with in the Sanhedrin, out of honor and reverence for the true Savior of the world. How can you stand up for Christ today?
