Even in Darkness, He Is Faithful

Psalm 23:4

Psalm 23 is one of the most famous passages in Scripture, primarily for the comfort it has brought to many in seasons of difficulty. As David describes the Lord as his shepherd, it is a picture of one who leads and protects. The valley of the shadow of death is a picture of the reality of the suffering of the Christian. As brokenness and suffering are a reality of life in our fallen world, David speaks of a comfort that is found purely in the sovereignty of God. As trial arises, where are we going to put our trust? When we look to the Creator of the world, the God who holds all things together, why would we ever fear? If God is who He says He is, why would we ever feel the need to stay in our brokenness?

Psalm 23:4

 [4] Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

 I will fear no evil,

 for you are with me;

 your rod and your staff,

 they comfort me. (ESV)

The protection and provision of the Lord is our strength, regardless of what is in front of us. As suffering arises, we can confidently trust in the promise of Jesus, which says, “ I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Take heart, rest in the comfort and protection of the Lord!
