Forgive Us
Matthew 6:12
![]() | How often do you seek the Lord’s Forgiveness? You might every single day, or it may have been solely on the day of your conversion. Although we have been made clean and been brought into right relationship with the Heavenly Father through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we still fall into sin, as we are still in this fallen world. Jesus teaches the disciples that coming to the Lord, asking for forgiveness, is something that should happen frequently. Not only that, but He speaks of this as a response to the forgiveness we have shown others. This is not intended to be a transactional interaction, but to point to a heart that is merciful because the Lord was merciful to us first. If we are to ask the Lord for forgiveness of our own sins, but neglect to forgive those who have wronged us, why should we expect the Lord to forgive us? |
Matthew 6:12
[12] and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors. (ESV)
At the end of the day, we have wronged God far greater than anyone has ever wronged us. As we were created to live for the glory of God, but have decided to live for ourselves, we have completely gone against God’s good and perfect plan for our life. We desperately need the Lord’s forgiveness, even after our salvation, as our grieves the Spirit inside of us. Let’s take time to examine ourselves today, asking the Spirit to search our hearts and lead us to confession. As we know the words of John, “ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Confession and forgiveness is how we continually live in the joy of our salvation. Respond with any questions, prayer requests, or encouragement. In Christ, Josh Hernandez | ![]() |
