Heaven’s Greatest Treasure Is God Himself

Why do you desire to go to Heaven? Maybe it is to be separated from this broken world. Maybe it is to see lost family members again. There are many reasons that we desire Heaven, but we often desire Heaven for the wrong reasons. If you got to Heaven one day, where there is no more pain and tears, but God wasn’t there, would you still desire to be there? As John Piper says, “The gospel is not a way to get people to heaven; it is a way to get people to God … If we don’t want God above all things, we have not been converted by the gospel” (John Piper, God Is The Gospel).Psalm 73:25

 Our faith on this earth has never been about the destination, but about the Who that is in the destination. Heaven has great benefits, many to enjoy and look forward to, but all fail in comparison to being in the fullness of the presence of God for all of eternity. Often times we forget this reality, but it must be the driving force in our Christian walk. As we are in this side of eternity, seek the Lord’s presence today, tomorrow, and forever, as eternity will be fully delighting in the person of God.
