It Is Finished

John 19:30

[30] When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (ESV)

It is finished. The perfect life of the Son of God lead to the perfect sacrifice, paying the debt of the sins of the world. As the Son came into the world out of obedience to the Father, He continued in His obedience, even to the point of death. The darkest day in all of history accomplished the greatest work of all eternity. As we celebrate Good Friday this week, it is important to remember why Christ went to the cross. We know the good news of Sunday’s resurrection, by what do we celebrate or remember on Friday.

This day is meant to open our eyes to our sinful condition, understanding that our sin is what sent Christ to the cost. He was perfect and without sin, the last person who should ever go to the cross. Out of love and compassion, He took our sins upon Himself, so that we may have life and everlasting joy with Him. If Christ is willing to give up His life for us, how much more should we do the same? The work is finished, there is no more debt we owe. Remember the work of Christ and rest in His righteousness.
