Living For What Lasts

Psalm 119:60

This is a challenging, but deeply encouraging line within Psalm 119. There is this idea of a willing obedience, not something forced, but rather out of delight and confidence in God Himself. Not only does the Psalmist desire to keep the commandments that the Lord has put in front of him, but pursues obedience immediately. Often times, we feel that the commands of the Lord are burdensome, that they take away the fun that is found in the world. We often forget that we were made with one purpose; to glorify the Lord. As we were created in His image, we are called to be His people and Him, our God. When our eyes are fixed upon Christ and His goodness, we are drawn with a desire to serve Him with everything we have.

Psalm 119:60

[60] I hasten and do not delay

 to keep your commandments. (ESV)

The whole Christian life is never meant to be about the believers’ earthly prosperity, but about the eternal reality of dwelling with the Lord the rest of our lives. So as we finish out our days on this earth, let us count the cost and follow the Lord with all our hearts. Let us put off our own desires, seeking the good will of the Lord instead. As keeping the Lord’s commands in this broken world can be difficult, we need to constantly rely on His power, and not our own.
