Living Pure in the Presence of God
Psalm 101:2
[2] I will ponder the way that is blameless.
Oh when will you come to me?
I will walk with integrity of heart
within my house;
Holiness. Purity. Righteousness. These are central to the heart of the born-again believer. Through the work of Christ, His death and resurrection, we are filled with His righteousness through faith in Him. Being rescued from sin and death, we are left in what is the “already and not yet kingdom.” As we await for Christ’s return, the life we now live is for Christ and His righteousness. David, hating the power and presence of sin, meditates on a way that is pleasing to God. He doesn’t speak of earning righteousness to get to God, but desires to prevent sin at all costs. | ![]() |
![]() | The word ponder has a meaning of thinking or living cautiously, as he understands how evil sin truly is. His meditation is a life free from this evil against God. When he speaks of integrity, he addresses it from the posture of his heart within his house. When on your own, when no one is around, but left alone with your thoughts, how easy is it to fall into sin? David knew this temptation greatly, as when alone in his house, he committed adultery with Bathsheba. In a culture that is accepting of laziness and isolation within our homes, temptation finds its way into each and everyone of our lives. Its easy to give in, thinking no one will see or know, but the One in whom created the world and exists everywhere in it, witnesses everything. |
As you meditate on this passage, remember the work of Christ on your behalf, being moved to live a life of purity for the glory of the one who created us, being cautious and aware of the presence of God. Think of this presence not in fear, but in confidence, knowing that Christ was tempted just as we were, but persevered without sin. Respond with any questions or encouragement!
