Longing for the One Who Truly Satisfies
Psalm 63:1
![]() | With a longing so great for God, David imagines his entire existence needing to be with Him. He uses a picture of a dry and weary land, lacking water. Living in the Phoenix desert makes this picture very clear. As the heat rises and exhaustion follows, there is a deep longing and desire for water, the one thing in that moment that can satisfy our deep thirst. In this moment, water is the most desirable thing imaginable. David uses this as a picture of our spiritual life. Our longing for the Lord must be like this longing for water, as for in the world, water brings temporal life, whereas God brings eternal life. |
Psalm 63:1
[1] O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. (ESV)
“Jesus said to her, ‘Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life’” (John 4:13-14). We often seek the things that bring temporal satisfaction, rather than the living God who always and completely satisfies. Where do you seek satisfaction? Is it in God, or in the world? Long and seek for the true source of satisfaction that is found in our Lord Jesus Christ. Respond with any questions or encouragement? In Christ, Josh Hernandez | ![]() |
