Verses - 2 Corinthians 5:17, 1 John 1, Colossians 1:10

Distorting Thoughts

Main Points - We are no longer bound it our fallen state, but transformed by the Holy Spirit through the work of Christ on the crossWe are called to walk in the light, obedience to God and abstain from the world To live pleasing to God is to bear fruit and increase in knowledge of Him. The work of Christ on the cross, does not only just give us a new life in Heaven after death, but gives the believer new life in the world today. Our old self was crucified with Christ at the cross [Galatians 2:20]. We no longer are bound to our sinful way of life, but now are given power over sin through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Now what? What does the believer do with their new life in Christ, while living in this fallen world? 1 John 1 describes how a believer walks in the light, separated from the darkness. A believer, saved by the grace of God, is to look different from those who walk in the patterns of the world. The Christian’s goal is to walk in a pleasing way to the holy God, but how does one do this? Colossians 1 describes that a life pleasing to the Lord is a life that bears fruit in every good work and to increase in knowledge of Him. [Col 1:10]

We produce fruit by abiding in Christ [John 15]. We increase in knowledge of Him in the same way, spending time in the Word, in prayer, and in worship. The reconciled believer is to continually be sanctified by the working of the Holy Spirit. Because of the great joy in which a believer has because of the Gospel, this work of obedience is a delight.

What does your daily walk of obedience to the Lord look like?
