Preserve The Truth
Matthew 5:13
Jesus calls His disciples the salt of the earth, but what does this mean? Why salt? Salt has a purpose of adding flavor and preserving goods. Salt has a very clear and practical function. But what happens when this salt is no longer salty? When salt is no longer salt, it loses its function, proving to be worthless. This is a weighty description that Jesus places on His disciples, but demonstrates what the born-again believer’s life should look like after coming to saving faith in the Lord. If we are called to turn from our former ways of sin, into a life of obedience to Christ, our lives will be salty, a noticeable difference to our words and deeds. | ![]() |
Matthew 5:13
[13] “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. (ESV)
![]() | With the concept of salt being something that preserves, the moral difference and standard of life must be maintained as we pursue holiness in this life. If our lives aren’t actively being marked and transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we may have lost our saltiness. As we meditate on the Gospel today, would our lives be filled with saltiness, demonstrating the work Christ has done on our hearts.
