Still Not Satisfied?

Matthew 5:6

The chase for satisfaction is endless, a battle that every man has faced since the day he was born. This longing is often directed towards the things of the world, but fails at fully satisfying. When we are in seasons of sorrow, grief, or pain, we may seek satisfaction through social media attention or quick fixes through abusing substances. If this has ever been you, you understand how these quick attempts at satisfaction never truly satisfy, but often leave you more broken than before.

Matthew 5:6

[6] “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. (ESV)

Jesus here speaks of what can truly satisfy. This longing for righteousness in Christ is what can truly satisfy the believer. As Augustine says, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” We were not made to find satisfaction anywhere outside of the Lord Himself. As Christ came down to earth, lived a perfect life, died on the cross and rose again three days later, he satisfied the wrath of God, paying the debt that was ours to pay. Now that our debt is paid by Christ Himself and are now clothed in His righteousness, why would we ever seek satisfaction anywhere else? The world can never satisfy, only the Lord can and does.
