Sustained

Matthew 6:11

How often do you live in remembrance of the Lord’s provision? Jesus transitions in the Lord’s Prayer from addressing His Heavenly Father, to now moving towards requests. As Jesus teaches His disciples to pray, He emphasizes the physical needs we have as men and women. As we have physical needs, we need someone to provide these physical needs. We need the Lord to provide for us the food on our plates, to provide the job that we need in order to pay for the food. We need the Lord to provide the good health in our bodies to give us the capacity to work. We need the Lord to continually give us breath in our lungs if we are to continue on in this life. The call to seek the Lord for the physical matters of our lives reminds us that all that we have is from Him, that apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15).

Matthew 6:11

[11] Give us this day our daily bread, (ESV)

Not only do we have physical needs that the Lord provides, but also spiritual. “Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.’” (John 6:35, ESV). The thing is, we will always need more and more physical things to sustain our lives, but when we feast on the saving work of Jesus Christ on the cross, we lack nothing, we are sustained. Call upon the Lord to continue to sustain you, as He is faithful to do so.

Respond with any questions, encouragement, or prayer requests.

In Christ,
