As we have looked at the stages of the cross, we witnessed the progression of the great suffering of our Lord Jesus Christ. After being crucified on the cross, all hope was lost. The One who claimed to be God, the Savior of the world, was put to death. All hope was lost, until Christ triumphed over death, raising Himself from the dead, rendering sin and death defeated! Not only does Christ rise from the dead, but so do those who put their faith in Him. Ephesians 2 points to the reality of man being dead in sin, now raised to new life in Christ, due to the power of the resurrection and working of the Holy Spirit.

[3] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, [4] to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, [5] who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (ESV)

The resurrection gives hope. The hope that was once lost at the death of Christ is restored into hope of our future life in eternity in the fullness of the presence of God. Through Christ’s resurrection, we have a living hope, a confidence to live out each day, not in fear, but in hope. As we reflect on each stage of the cross, let us remember and reflect on what Christ went through in order for us to have an eternal relationship with Him. Let us now daily pick up our crosses to follow Him, as a response to the great work He has done on our behalf.
