Do this in remembrance of me.
The Last Supper - A devotional from my the MADCHARCOAL team.
Matthew 26:27–28 “Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
On the night before our Lord was betrayed, He spent the time in fellowship with His disciples, celebrating one last Passover feast, knowing He soon would be handed over to be arrested. The Passover is a reminder of the events in Exodus 12, where the final plague in Egypt occurred, leading to the death of all the firstborns in the land. Only the blood of an unblemished lamb on the doorpost of the house would bring protection from this plague. This dark night brought freedom for God’s people, leading to their escape from Egypt.

This meal is a reinstitution of the Passover, but now instituted through the blood of Jesus Christ, the sacrificial Lamb. The Old Testament sacrificial lamb demonstrated a security from physical death, where the blood of Christ brings us security from spiritual death. Through faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and His resurrection, His blood cleanses us from our unrighteousness, making us righteous in the eyes of God. We partake in this meal in remembrance of the saving work of Jesus Christ. Not only can we remember and think about these things, but we get to participate in it.
If we are to live in remembrance, there is no better place for us to meditate on other than the cross of Jesus Christ
How can you actively live in remembrance this week?
Respond with any questions or encouragement!
