What Is Your Treasure?
Matthew 6:21
What is your treasure? What do you value the most? Think long and carefully about what that may be. Now, think about that thing being taken away forever. How do you respond? If we are honest with ourselves, this scenario doesn’t play out too well. Human beings are worshippers, whether to God or to the things of this world. If the thing that we value the most in this world was taken away, how would we treat God? Would we respond in anger, sorrow, or confusion? Jesus points to the heart position that comes from what we value. Jesus says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37, English Standard Version). If we are to love God with our whole hearts, how can our treasures be something else other than God? It simply cannot. | ![]() |
Matthew 6:21
[21] For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (ESV)
![]() | Things can be valuable to us on this earth, as God gives His people good gifts, but they were not given to be valued over Him. The greatest gift the Lord has given to us was and is Jesus Christ Himself. The One who came down to earth, lived a perfect life, died a sacrificial death, paying the debt we owe to God due to our sin so that we can stand blameless before the Father. This is the greatest gift we have received, Christ Himself. He must be our treasure. Nothing else compares. Meditate on this reality and remember the ultimate worth of knowing Christ. If Christ is our treasure, our hearts will follow. Respond with any questions, encouragement, or prayer requests. In Christ, Josh Hernandez |
