Your Kingdom Come
Matthew 6:10
The next verse of the Lord’s Prayer continues this idea of looking vertical, to the God who created and sustains all things. Since we were created to live for the glory of our Father who is in Heaven, this part of the prayer focuses on His will. As fallen men and women, we like to do things our own way. When something interrupts our routine or the way we tend to do things, we get frustrated, because we are putting it in the backdrop of our own wills. As Jesus teaches His disciples to pray, He points to the idea of seeking the Father’s will who is in Heaven, instead of our own. This means that our wills need to be in subjection to the Father’s will above all things. The focus here is on the Kingdom of God, that as God’s reconciled people, we are to seek to build the Kingdom of God, instead of our own. | ![]() |
Matthew 6:10
[10] Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. (ESV)
![]() | What is beautiful about this prayer is that it reminds us of our purpose. We weren’t created to devote ourselves to our work, families, or education, but to devote our lives to the will of God, living for His glory. Now, your work and families are great things, but are you stewarding these things in a way that builds your own kingdom, or stewarding these things for the glory of our Father? As you pray this morning, remind yourself of this beautiful reality that we do have a purpose, which is to live for the Kingdom of God. Respond with any questions, prayer requests, or encouragement.
